Vista Grande suits gay men who want a larger, classic Warm Sands resort. You get gardens, several pools, a hot breakfast and a pool scene you can join or ignore. If you want a small, very quiet place, choose The Hacienda. If you want weekly pool parties and day-pass crowds, choose Casa Oliver.

What sets it apart

Its history and its grounds. Vista Grande says it was established in 1984 as “the first gay clothing optional resort in Palm Springs,” with seven rooms. It now has “over thirty guest rooms and apartments” on more than an acre of gardens. (El Mirasol Villas, a few doors away, calls itself the city’s first gay hotel, from 1975. The two claims describe different firsts.)

The resort lists:

  • Three pools: the Avalon “party pool,” the non-smoking Vista Grande “Zen” pool, and a private pool for Atrium guests only.
  • Water and steam: a waterfall with a bathing lagoon, a large steam room and an 18-person hot tub.
  • Extras: misters across the property, free Wi-Fi and parking, free membership at a local gym, and staff on site 24 hours.

Breakfast

A complimentary breakfast is served daily from 7 to 10 am, with last orders at 9:45. Alongside cereals, bagels and oatmeal, the menu includes waffles, breakfast burritos, croissant sandwiches and build-your-own scrambles.

Recent reviewers single out the cooked-to-order food.

What recent guests say

Tripadvisor showed 773 reviews averaging 4.6 in October 2026: 570 excellent, 149 good, 22 average, 17 poor and 15 terrible. The ten most recent cover stays from March to October 2026, plus one from July 2025, and all were five-star. Repeated themes:

  • staff, often named;
  • the made-to-order breakfast;
  • cleanliness;
  • rooms that are each different;
  • a pool scene that is social if you want it and quiet if you don’t.

No complaint repeated in that sample.

How it compares

Choose INNdulge instead for a smaller, sociable Warm Sands option with an evening social hour. Choose El Mirasol Villas for owner-run bungalows with kitchens and a quieter feel. Choose Santiago if you want lunch included too, and don’t mind being outside Warm Sands, about 1.2 miles by road from Arenas Road.
